Data Release Policy

As a public service, an initial draft assembly of the Chlamydomonas reinhardtii genome is being made available by the Department of Energy Joint Genome Institute (JGI) and the Chlamydomonas Genome Consortium before scientific publication. This pre-publication draft sequence and annotation is preliminary and may contain errors. The Chlamydomonas Genome Consortium reserves the exclusive right to publish,by the end of 2003, the assembly and sequence of the Chlamydomonas genome along with an initial genome-scale analysis. Reserved analyses include the identification of complete sets of genomic features such as genes, gene families, pathways, regulatory elements, repeat structures, etc. based on the draft genome sequence.

The data may be freely downloaded and used by all users who respect the restrictions of the previous paragraph. The assembly and raw sequence reads should not be redistributed or repackaged without permission from the JGI and the Chlamydomonas Genome Consortium.

We encourage the use of the Chlamydomonas genome sequence for the comparative analysis of individual genes and genomic regions. To this end, a genome browser with preliminary annotations is being made available on the web by the JGI. Publications using the Chlamydomonas genome sequence for the analysis of individual genes and genomic regions should include the acknowledgement: “These sequence data were produced by the US Department of Energy Joint Genome Institute, http://www.jgi.doe.gov/ and are provided for use in this publication/correspondence only.”
