The Download Area

All JGI organism sites offer an area for downloading sequences via FTP. Some of these are released to the public under a specific data release policy. If a data release policy applies, the Download link takes you directly to the policy page.

To accept the data release policy and view the Download page, click Accept.

To cancel without downloading anything and return to the organism's home page, click Decline.

The Download page lists items available for download and provides FTP-based links to them. Be sure to read the notes on the specific Download page to determine which files suit your needs.

Troubleshooting FTP Downloads

If you are not able to download a file, there are several likely reasons.

  • Your firewall only allows FTP transfers in passive (or active) mode. Set your FTP client to use passive mode. If you have been using passive mode, try active mode. If neither mode works, try an HTTP download.
  • Your browser doesn't support FTP. Try using a different browser or an FTP program, or try an HTTP download.
  • Your connection to the Internet is not solid enough to download large files. Try downloading the sequence as multiple small files instead of one large one, if the download page offers that option.

HTTP Downloads

To download via HTTP, you will need to type the URL for the download directory into your browser. The HTTP download URL is the same as the FTP download URL, except that the protocol name is "http" rather than "ftp" and the server name is "genome" rather than "ftp". So, for example,

ftp://ftp.jgi-psf.org/pub/JGI_data/Poplar/reads_multi/

becomes

/pub/JGI_data/Poplar/reads_multi/

You may need to bring up the contextual menu for a particular link (right click or click and hold on the link) in order to save the file outside your browser.
